Heat shrinkable and cold shrinkable joints involve center sleeves to splice cables together. Straight through joints pass cables straight through and seal around them. Joints should be waterproof, insulated and reinforced for some applications. Heat and cold shrink tubing is slid over cable joints or ends and then shrunk to create a tight seal. Heat shrink requires heating, cold shrink uses a chemical reaction. Tubing comes in a range of insulation levels, from basic sealing to high voltage. It must be properly sized to cables.
